Replacement vs Insert

We had an Andersen rep come to our house for an estimate on replacement windows.  We currently have aluminum covered wood casements.  I was surprised to hear that Andersen was planning on keeping the old jambs and frames, even after the sales rep told us about how aluminum covered wood products rot behind the aluminum.  I consider a replacement window to mean just that, replace the entire window from stud to stud in the wall without reusing old jambs and framing.  These were just window inserts.  Plus, they would not offer a custom made patio door, we would have to add interior molding to fit their size. Might be a very good product for new construction, but did not fit our needs for replacements.
